Though we already know that the Audi A5 Convertible will be launched in January 2009, we got a confirmation now that the A5 will start production later this year and will be on sale as scheduled in 2009. The confirmation came from Audi’s Frank Dreves, in an interview given to Automobilewoche. The Audi A5 will begin production in a city near Stuttgart, called Neckarsulm.

Together with the Audi S5, the A5 Convertible will compete with the BMW 335i convertible for the same audience. But, the difference is that the Audi A5 and S5 will have soft-tops to keep the weight smaller.

The total number of Audi A5 Convertible cars produced in 2009 is expected to be 28,000 and its debut will probably be in January at the Detroit Auto Show.
