The Audi A3 is a small family car, positioned as a entry-level luxury vehicle, that started production in 1996. Both the current generation and the previous one are built on the Volkswagen A platform. The current generation of the Audi A3 is being built in two plants, one in Ingolstadt and the other in Belgium. Audi A3 comes in 3 body variants: 5 door estate, 2 door convertible and 3 door hatchback.
The second generation Audi A3 was launched in 2003, at the Geneva Auto Show, in the 3 door version. The new things it came with included a new mechanical platform, new petrol engines, a bigger interior and 6 speed gearboxes as a standard.
A few months later, in the summer of 2003, Audi launched two other models, a 3.2 VR6 engine and a 2.0 Turbo FSI. The Audi A3 Sportback, the 5 door variant, was launched in June 2004 and it’s 8cm longer than the 3 door version.
